HIV is still a big deal, let's celebrate National Testing Day by empowering ourselves!

national-hiv-testing-day-09HIV is still a threat. There has been a lot in the news lately about recent strides made in HIV treatment, even news of a child possibly being cured. It’s true that a diagnosis of HIV is no longer the “death sentence” it was in the past, but the reality is that tens of thousands of people are still testing positive for HIV every year.

It can be easy to neglect our sexual health. It can be tempting to convince ourselves that we know our partners, but safe sex is no less important than it ever was, despite new  advances made in science and research. Practicing safe sex is still vitally important, and testing yourself regularly can not only help keep you safe, but give you and your partner piece of mind.

It is the goal of doctors and researchers all over the world to eradicate HIV, but we’re not there yet. Chances are someone you know will test positive in their lifetime. The website ifIknew can help you stay educated and learn about the latest news and resources, but taking responsibility for ourselves is still key.

Tomorrow, Thursday June 27th is National Testing Day- do it for yourself! (There happens to be a handy testing locator RIGHT HERE)
